San Francisco Bay Area, California
The newest member of the Sovereign Grace family of churches is Wellspring Church in San Leandro, a suburb of Oakland, California. Senior pastor Sam Shin started the church in 2000, and in recent years, friendship between Sam and Sovereign Grace pastors has developed into deeper partnership. This was formalized on March 2, when Wellspring Church was adopted into Sovereign Grace Ministries.
Mooresville/Kannapolis, North Carolina
The next Sovereign Grace church plant, to be called Grace Community Church, is planned for this spring in the Mooresville/Kannapolis region north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The church-planting team will be sent primarily from CrossWay Community Church in Charlotte. Brent Detwiler, who has served for many years on the Sovereign Grace leadership team, will lead the church plant and serve as senior pastor. For more information, visit CrossWay’s website.
Gaithersburg, Maryland
Sovereign Grace Ministries’ second Spanish-speaking church in the U.S. will launch this year in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Joselo Mercado, a 2006 graduate of our Pastors College, will lead the new church. Iglesia Gracia Soberana de Gaithersburg plans to start public meetings in September 2008. Other recently added churches include Riverside Christian Fellowship (Fort Lauderdale, FL), led by senior pastor Brian Brookins; Sovereign Grace Church Toronto (Ontario), led by senior pastor Tim Kerr; and Lifegate Church (Seguin, TX), led by senior pastor Bob Odom.
